• In the dark I hid, until you sat and said,
“Would you mind if I sit here, you seem rather scared?”
I thought for a short time, and then I quietly replied,
“You may sit if you want, but I can’t promise that I’ll talk.”
You smiled with glee then said happily,
“Then I won’t talk much either, and we can just sit here together.”
And so we sat for quite some time, talking a little about our lives.
When the time came for you to leave, you stood and said to me,
“I’ve had fun and just wanted to know, would you mind if I returned tomorrow?”
    Almost immediately I said truthfully,
“My day wouldn’t be the same unless you came to visit again.”
You replied with a hug and a promise of your return.
The next day I awaited your arrival, and when at last I saw you I started to smile.
But you approached me crying, telling me that you were dying.
In response I held you close and whispered that there could be hope.
We stood there until the tears were gone, then we sat and discussed what was wrong.
You told me surviving had no chance and you only had a month to live.
I sat in silence thinking hard about it.
I said, “Then we have to make that month count, to be with you is what I want.
I understand if you want something else, and I’ll do all I can to help.”
You said, “No, that’s how I feel too, all I want is to be with you.”
I burst into tears with happiness and fear.
I said, “I don’t have a clue of what we will do,
But as long as we’re together it doesn’t even matter.”
Together we stayed as you grew weaker each day,
Until the month was gone, and the time had come.
As you began to go, I read something I had wrote,
“You’re the only person to bring a smile upon my face.
Not another soul had ever done that before.
Your eyes lit the dark that used to fill my heart.
Your smile brought me my first feeling of glee.
When your voce sang, it erased all of my pain.
‘I love you’ is the only thought in my mind, so will you please say you’ll be mine?”
Sobbing, you said yes with your final breath.
I found the razors that I had brought, and with them I began to cut.
On your chest I lay my note, as I slowly began to bleed out.
I rested beside you calmly waiting to again see you smiling.
And so together we died with your hand in mine,
Both of us crying and both of us smiling.
