I am the bringer of Death
I greet my patient formally
Purely out of courtesy
But then it is off to business
And their life has to end
Sometimes we sit and watch family members crying
Wishing we could give some word of comfort
Sometimes there is no one there
Only memories wished to be forgotten
But after that I never see
Not one of my patients again
I have never dared to break this rule
Never caring, until you
You, the one with all the family
Who didn’t seem to care
You, who told me I was a soulless beast,
And spoke the truth to my greatest fears
You, who told me you, hated me
And hurt during our time together
And I watched
And I searched
For an answer to my question
can I see you again?
And there you are in front of me
Taunting and teasing me
Just out of my reach
The epitome of my dreams
So why did you go
And choose another
Why did you condemn me to Hell
Without a second thought
You stole God’s heart
And with mine too
But I am merely Death’s messenger
A lowly servant
You vile little creature
Have stolen my heart tonight
