• Closed doors are a beauty
    Don't you see?
It keeps one out and one in
    Never one in-between.

    It's definite, it's sure
    There's only here or there.
If only life were as simple
    With these answers to spare.

    If life could manage
What a closed door can do.
    Define one from the other,
    The lie from the truth.

    Then life would be easy
    Always confident, always right
    No qualms or issues
    No effort, no strife.

Yet for us, all of us
    We observe and we see
It's not just open or shut
    But all in-between.

    There are options, so many
    And choices, too few
    There are what ifs, perhaps
    Unsure and confused.

    There are falsehoods and liars
    Traders and thieves
    Deceptions and covers
    Jealousy, greed.

    There is black and white
    But gray is there, too
    And orange and green,
    Yellow and blue.

That's why life is a gamble
    Life is a game.
    That solid, closed door
    Doesn't know that shame.

    Yet even in shame
    And confusion and greed
    I'll choose complication,
    It's liberating and free.

    Closed doors have a price
    Closed doors have a toll.
I'll keep what riches I have,
    And my in-between soul.
